Essential Oils to Help Clear Acne
Ten Essential Oils to Help Clear Acne
While severe acne should always be investigated by a medical professional, there are steps you can take that don’t involve using harsh medicated products on your skin. Try one or a combination of these essential oils and see if they help clear acne and make a difference to your skin.
Acne starts when skin oil known as sebum clogs your pores. There are different factors causing acne. Excess production of sebum cause acne. Acne is also associated with hormonal fluctuation during the teenage years. And there’s a lot more.
Lavender
Lavender oil helps the skin in so many ways. It can help lessen acne, lighten the skin, and even reduce wrinkles. Lavender oil can kill bacteria, preventing and healing acne breakouts. It is best to dilute lavender oil to any carrier oil and apply it to acne-infected skin after washing your face.
Tea Tree Essential Oil
This essential oil is commonly used to treat wounds. Tea tree oil effectively treats and clears acne without causing skin dryness or irritation. Take a small piece of cotton wool, dip it in the tea tree oil and wipe the area. You may need to dilute tea tree oil with carrier oil if you have sensitive skin. Try three drops of tea tree oil to 1 teaspoon of carrier oil.
Bergamot oil
Bergamot oil is rich in anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, making it an effective acne treatment. It is best for people who do not have sensitive skin. Combine this gorgeous citrusy oil with coconut, jojoba, or olive carrier oil to make an excellent acne treatment oil.
Rosemary oil
Rosemary oil is best for people with oily skin. This essential oil helps regulate sebum production in the skin. This simultaneously prevents the clogging of your pores. Try adding to an unscented moisturizer base and use it regularly.
Frankincense oil
This essential oil is mild, so most people can use and apply it directly to their skin. This is used even centuries ago for healing wounds. Frankincense oil helps in repairing connective tissue in the skin. It also has potent anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. It even helps revitalize skin and has healing properties that work on all skin types and benefit acne.
Oregano Oil
Oregano oil has anti-inflammatory properties that might help reduce swelling acne. This essential oil has disinfectant properties and needs to be used sparingly. Dilute well with a carrier oil as with tea tree for best effects.
Chamomile
Chamomile oil, like others, is loaded with anti-inflammatory properties so that it can treat skin swelling and redness. Mixing the chamomile oil with evening primrose oil is an excellent acne treatment. Add a few drops of neat chamomile oil to your face wash daily for the best results.
Since essential oils are concentrated plant oil, they can be powerful. Always read directions before applying directly to the skin. It would be best to dilute essential oils with carrier oils like coconut oil, jojoba oil, or olive oil.
