Safety First!

It’s wise to assume that you will have to dilute your essential oils before using them. As a rule, keep the concentration levels of essential oils below 5%.

To give you an idea of what this means in practice: diluting at 1% is equivalent to adding 6 drops of essential oil to 1 oz. of carrier oil such as sweet almond oil.

Body Scrubs Body scrubs are very easy to make, you simply mix the ingredients together store and store them in a sterilized glass container. Sterilized plastic containers are fine as long as you use your scrub within a couple of months. Essential oils will start to break down the plastic. Adding one or two capsules of vitamin E oil will preserve your product longer. You can even put some in small jars for gifts or retail.

Aromatherapy Scrubs

SPICE COOKIE SUGAR SCRUB • 1 cup brown sugar • 1 cup white sugar • ¾ cup of coconut oil – heat just to melting, not to heat! • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice • ½ teaspoon vanilla Aromatherapy

SIMPLE BASIC SCRUB • Mix coarse sea salt or sugar with oil at a 2:1 ratio. Then add 3-4 drops of essential oils and stir it up. • For example: If you are only using one kind of oil, mix 1/2 cup oil with 1 cup salt or sugar. Or mix 1 cup salt with 1/4 cup coconut oil and 1/4 cup vitamin E oil, and so on.
